The following are helpful references for clients in structuring project development and fundraising activities.

Project Summary Form
1. Statement of the problem or issues addressed
2. Brief overview of the project
3. Major project objective(s)
4. Major project milestones
5. Project budget including local match
6. Applicant and/or administrating organization - include a statement concerning local and political support for the project

Suggested Fundraising Action Plan
Step 1. Identify projects that (a) are needed in the community and (b) have strong political support.
Step 2. Assist client to prepare project summary documents that:
  • Outline the problem, issue, opportunity being addressed
  • Define the projects’ goals, objectives and strategies
  • Set out a project action plan/timeline
  • Outline the project budget including partner match (if required)
  • Provide detail on the client’s political support the projects have at the local, state, and national levels
Step 3. “Shop” or market the projects to Members of Congress and federal agency decision makers to determine the appropriateness of the project, answer funding questions, gain tips on developing/changing project format and content.
Step 4. Meet with Congressional Delegation Members and staff to brief them on the project and to gain Congressional support.
Step 5. (With encouragement from Congress and agency officials) Assist in the preparation of congressional appropriation bill language or the completion of required agency and private organization grant applications.
Step 6. (As needed) Market the projects to other Members of Congress, federal agency officials, and private sector executives.
Step 7. (As needed) Revise the project content and budget.
Step 8. Complete agreements and other documentation required to gain access to funds once approved by Congress or the funding organization.
